The Kádár Étkezde
At Kádár, the faces behind the counter may change, but the spirit never does. Today it’s Mr. Gábor who welcomes you where once Mr. Tibor stood — yet everything else feels just the same. The legendary sólet is still on the menu, and the raspberry syrup is still topped with proper soda, just as it always was.
Opened in 1957 and now reopened after only a short pause, Kádár remains a modest place. Some would call it puritan, but we call it honest. Here everyone is equal — the only difference is which table you sit at, and which waiter you choose to serve you.
For decades, Klauzál tér 9. has been a meeting point: writers and poets, boxers and footballers, musicians, postmen, theatre directors — all found their place here. And now it’s your turn. You may come for the first time out of curiosity, but you’ll return because Kádár has a way of bringing people together. You’ll share a table with strangers who won’t feel like strangers for long.
The walls tell the stories. They carry the faces, the memories, the moments. And one day, your photo might hang among them — another piece of the living history that has been written here for nearly seventy years.
At Kádár, everything stays just the way it’s always been:
reservations are for seats, not for tables.
As for the past seventy years, we don’t move the tables – everything remains in its rightful place. If you’re visiting as a group, please note that sitting together at the same table cannot always be guaranteed. At Kádár, reservations are for seats, not for tables, and seating is arranged according to availability. That’s part of the tradition – and part of the charm that’s made Kádár what it is for generations. Reservations are accepted for dining in only – please do not book if you plan to order takeaway. This is how the true Kádár experience begins.
